Ok, maybe you waited too long for family portrait and you totally skipped through autumn and now it is winter time. Well, I’m in Utah, and if there is snow, there is the perfect chance for some awesome family portraits.
The Davidsons’ extended family wanted some portraits and we picked Little Cottonwood Canyon for the photo shoot. We just drove up the canyon on a clear day and picked a spot. We had aspen trees, mountains, and snow. All wonderful elements for the photo shoot.
At the moment, I have a winter portrait session to plan and this time, I think I’ll pick Big Cottonwood Canyon. I try and avoid the days it is snowing. The roads can be shut down or just limited to 4-wheel drive or cars with chains and lasers.
And with every photo shoot, we’ll do all the combinations of people. The whole family, siblings, parents, couples, babies, or individual shots.
Utah can surprise people with the landscape. Most of Utahns live along the Wasatch front in valleys surround by the mountains. We often will use the mountains as a quick navigation tool. You’ll hear the “mountains are east.” And they make perfect backgrounds for photos.
And I love aspen trees. Their unique bark and repetitive pattern can be unique for photography year round. Pretty cool.
And what a cute couple! Everyone looks smashing in black.
Last photo of the day with mom.
I’m tempting fate by hoping this pandemic ends soon… or at least this year. And I hope I can break out of the sitting at home rut. I’ve kept busy with projects, but I hope I can break into exploring the mountains, canyons, and landscapes Utah has to offer. Maybe I’ll find some locations that are perfect for the next photo shoot.
