If you didn’t know, my day job is at Nu Skin in Provo, Utah. I work as a UX/UI Designer and I’ve been there for almost 17 years! For the last few years, during March Madness, the company has brought in the Utah Jazz Dunk Team to perform for the employees. Afterwards we have a catered lunch from JDawgs and watch NCAA Tournament games on the big screen. It’s a pretty fun way to enjoy basketball at work!
I always bring some kind of camera with me to work… Boy Scouts are prepared. Today I brought my “big camera” that I use on my commercial and paid assignments. The Canon 5DIII works pretty well in low light such as the Nu Skin atrium and since this is technically sports photography we need the right shutter speed. I even photographed in JPG like a real sports photographer.
I took about 1000 photographs for the two performances. I whittled that down to 100 for the company. They asked if I wouldn’t mind taking a few photographs. I was this close to bringing video gear so I’m glad I brought the photography gear.
I like to shoot different angles and try to get different views. But sometimes, right under the basket the the best view and it’s hard to beat. And usually, when you have a big lens and big camera, you can go almost anywhere you want. To really get anywhere, you need to wear a bright orange vest as if you are part of a construction crew. Or you can carry a ladder with you. People will let you right inside if you’re carrying a ladder.
