The International Peace Garden is located on the west side of Salt Lake City. It was built for the 2002 Winter Olympics. The park is a park within a park. It is hidden away and not a lot of people know about it. There are different sections dedicated to different countries from around the world such as Korea, Germany, Denmark, and others.
For this family photo shoot it was just the kids. In the age of email there are occasions I never meet the actual client. So we photographed group photos and then individual photos. We just roved the park looking for great light and great backgrounds.
Afternoons are often the best times for photos. Mornings are also good but people often don’t wake up early enough for morning shoots. So the afternoon typically is the most popular. Whatever we do we want to avoid noon. The light at midday is usually the worst. And we had nice golden light in the park and the backlight mixed with my portable lighting kit helped create cool photos.
