Hey, it’s a few firsts in this blog post. This is the first blog post with the new WordPress theme, hooray for that. It is also the first set of corporate headshots with natural light! I typically use strobes and flash to paint and light my subjects. However, sometimes you are tasked with matching existing styles. Another photographer had already shot a number of headshots in this style and my job was to continue that trend with more directors in the marketing department.
If you don’t know, I do have a day job. I work at Nu Skin in Provo, Utah. I’m in the Global Marketing Department and these are all the directors in the Global Marketing department. Woo hoo!
For the longest time at Nu Skin I’ve been one of the web designers. That title has morphed into digital designer and UX/UI designer and now I just go by Digital Unicorn… because I work on all sorts of stuff as long as it is digital. So for the last while I have been using my photography skills more and more. We still fly out to NY or LA for the models and the big photographers, but I’m hoping I can play a bigger role of our photographic needs!
And this year, we went camera shopping. We bought a ton of Canon cameras and glass and even a MacBook Pro so I can shoot tethered. I’m even learning CaptureOne for the photos that need “extreme” detail. Lightroom is great, but CaptureOne takes it to another level.
So back to these images. We’re working on a more fresh look for the photography. Often corporate headshots are on a white background or a solid color. Here we have them in front of huge windows with trees and plans of summer in the background. So we have a cool grey and green background. We also have people sitting, which can be a challenge to photograph. But we spent about 15-20 minutes with each person and at the end they were able to pick their favorite photograph. I processed said photo and blamo! we have they’e photographs ready.
We were also in a time crunch. These images were to be used in a PowerPoint presentation the very next day. So time was of the essence. Hooray for that new laptop.
