Steven Fales One Man Play

by dav.d

Steven Fales hired me as the production photographer for his most recent one man play. He tells his story growing up Mormon and gay. I had seen his earlier show “Missionary Position” years ago and in many ways I could relate to my own life.

Steven explains with some humor the beliefs of Mormonism… that we lived with God before we were born, we were sent to earth, and hopefully one day we will return to live with God. For people who grow up gay and in the closet that becomes a problem. Steven has dealt with drug addiction, prostitution, divorce, losing his kids, and being excommunicated by the LDS Church. This play focuses more on his desire to be reunited with his children and find his own bit of heaven.

The play was performed at The Leonardo in Salt Lake City. We spent about an hour or two creating photographs of key scenes of the play. I probably created 900 photos and whittled it down to 100 of the best photos for his use in marketing the play online and in print.
