Meet Stan and McKenzie! I’ll be photographing their wedding towards the end of summer and we photographed their engagements in early June. We started at the International Peace Garden which is a favorite location of mine. It is a combination of park and some international flavored monuments. We then went out to the Great Salt Lake near Saltair and created some more photographs of the couple.
Every couple is different. Stan and McKenzie were pretty comfortable holding hands, kissing, and canoodling for the camera. Other couples might not like to be as affectionate for the camera… and that is alright. We want to capture the couple and be true to who they are.
Rumors abound that the trolley won’t last long. There are rumors the owner is going to dismantle the trolley. It isn’t the safest structure but you can get some good photographs there as long as it is around. Just watch for rusted nails… rusted anything I guess.
We photographed the couple holding hands… we can capture the engagement ring this way.
We also photographed the couple’s bright blue Chuck Taylors. The shoes are pretty awesome and I made an exception to the rule and made everything black and white… except for the shoes. This is called selective color and many photographers frown on the technique. It gets used a lot and can sometimes be tacky. But sometimes it works. Sometimes it can be cool. Sometimes.
One way to beat the traditional poses is to climb a tree or photograph the couple in an activity. There are tons of ideas and options!
I like epic photographs. And the dynamic skies, the spotlight on the couple, and the wide view help create that epic feel. This might not be for everyone… but I think it is pretty cool.
