Buckle up, this post has a lot of fierce DJ Nina Flowers and Drag Queen fierceness. DJ Nina Flowers was a contestant on Ru Paul’s Drag Race. I’ve only seen one or two seasons, but it’s always fun to see a reality TV personality in the real world. It would also explain her amazing makeup!
The main event were local drag queen talent. They mingled, performed, I even photographed them at the step-and-repeat.
Matt Palmer made a return as one of the go go dancers.
Photographing clubs is challenging. “Back in the day” I learned a lot about photography by photographing the old Club JAM. The lighting is dark, the smoke, and there are a lot of people. It requires some decent camera gear, a flash, and dragging the shutter. I also delete a ton of photographs. For this event I shot about 950 photographs and then I whittled down to 366. I shoot a few photos of each person or group and then pick the best photograph.
I did shoot some video, however, I haven’t had the time to put together a highlight clip. I might be able to do that later this week. Time is a precious commodity. We all have the same amount of time each day, it’s what we do with that time that is important.
Photographing clubs or circuit parties is fun because of the smoke machines and the party lighting. It can definitely help create some awesome photographs. I think it would be fun to try fog and party lights for a portrait session. Maybe I can just hire someone to vape while we shine Christmas lights behind the smoke.
There are some very creative people out there. I would never think of the amazing makeup or outfits. Although, Pinterest might be a great resource for ideas.
