For the last few years I have been the event photographer for the Utah AIDS Foundation and their Walk for Life. The Salt Lake Walk for Life raises money to help people in Utah living with HIV/AIDS. This year the walk raised $60,000!
This year the walk started at the City Creek Mall in downtown Salt Lake City. For the past two years the walk has had police escort and they walk on the roads of the city. It feels a little like a parade. Before that the walk would be on the sidewalks and went for a longer distance.
I love to photograph the four-footed and furry companions. Dogs are popular on the walk and they have a great time.
DJ Lishus was providing music as people gathered for the walk. I have run into him at a number of events and weddings this summer. Always fun to run into a familiar face.
Before the walk different people will start a team and raise money towards a goal. Some of the groups were backed by their employer such as American Express, City Creek Mall, Macy’s, Harmons, eBay, and others. Maybe next year I’ll try and do my own fundraising team. If you get to a certain level you get a t-shirt!
I had a great time and some exercise. Mornings are great because the light is pretty and still a bit golden.
Cheer Salt Lake was there to warm up the audience with some stretches and dance moves. They also performed for the group before they took off.
Thanks to all the walkers! I had a blast. I look forward to next year’s Walk for Life.
