Joel wanted some portraits and headshots created and he contact me. We started in the Exchange Place near Main Street and we then went over to the west side of Salt Lake City where there is some construction style buildings. We were playing around alleys, concrete, metal, and more for some different textures. I brought my portable lighting kit and used it for some of the portraits and a number of photos I was using natural light.
These photos were created in 2008 and I am updating this blog post in 2015. I will confess my Photoshop has been overhanded sometimes. In the past 7 years, as I write this blog post, I can see how my style and skills have changed and improved respectively. And I will admit that I look at photos from a few months ago and know how I could improve those. So I am always growing and improving. I’m a little more selective in what I post but it is helpful to show where I have been. I think that is the nice thing about blogs. These photos may not make it to a portfolio… the portfolio should show your current best of the best. But a blog can show a progress over time.
And this photo of Joel on the marble steps was complete luck. The guard of the building saw us photographing and asked if we wanted to used the stairs inside the building. I don’t think he was supposed to let us but he invited and we said yes. Woo hoo!
