I read an article that ranked all fifty states from worst to best “foodie” rankings. Utah was ranked #48 and the only thing they gave props to was “fry sauce” which is nothing more than ketchup and mayonnaise mixed together for french fries. Oregon came out as #6. That is pretty dang true.
Whenever I visit Oregon I love to sample the various eateries and restaurants. And being a photographer I have to take photos on occasion.
One place I have to go to each time is VooDoo Donuts. They are working on world wide fame but they have at least 2 locations in Portland. The second one isn’t as busy so if you are in a hurry it is the place to go. We ordered the surprise me pack where they will pick the donuts for you. One of them was the Cap’n Crunch Crunch Berry topped donut. Nummers.
And my friend Nicolesy took this photograph of me so I can be Facebook famous, woo hoo!
After a wine tour we stopped at a restaurant on the way back and the food was delicious and very photogenic. We were also seated outside in the shade so the light was perfect for some guerrilla food photography. We even ordered the desserts because we can always go to the gym on Monday.
If you are in Portland be sure to check out Salt & Straw ice cream. They make their ice cream fresh with local ingredients and they have creative combinations. Flavors such as cucumber and raspberry sorbet, sea salt ice cream and caramel ribbon, pear and blue cheese, and many others. You won’t find this at Baskin Robbins.
And it is always great to find good Indian food. It was the last meal in Portland before my flight. As I think about it you really don’t notice fast food joints in Portland. Most everything is local, unique, and borderline artisanal.
So I guess I’ll be going back!
