Photoshop and the Family Portrait

Often getting the family together in one location is a rare occurrence. It might be a wedding or a funeral or maybe both?
When there is a family reunion it is perhaps the best time for a family photograph or portrait. However, sometimes the location isn’t ideal or isn’t as photogenic. That is when Photoshop can come to the rescue.

These two families were attending a wedding reception in the middle of winter. Too cold to go outside and the location wasn’t anything special. I did have a small photo booth setup and so I had my studio lights there to photograph them. So they did get some basic photos but for the fun of it and see what we could do I added one family to Temple Square with the Salt Lake Temple in the background. The other family was added to an apple orchard that was covered with apple blossoms.

In both cases we have a family photo that is a lie! But it looks so much better than what we originally started with… a family in front of a white background. Reality is overrated anyway.
