Photographing Scientist’s Headshots for the Day Job

by dav.d

I never know who or what I will be photographing from week to week. This week I had the opportunity to photograph the scientists for my day job. The photos will be used on websites, brochures and more. We did the photo shoot in the hallway of the cubical area. We found a white wall and I brought in my big studio lights so we could create everyone’s photographs in about half an hour.

And what makes someone a scientist? A lab coat! And years of study and a degree helps as well. I photographed about 13 scientists with and without lab coats.

And I may or may not have retouched the photos… actually, I did retouch them and I tried out a new retouching technique that is supposed to keep the skin’s texture while removing blemishes and it looks pretty dang natural. Most retouching blurs the skin. It does take longer but it can be worth it. This is info that is probably boring to most people but some people might be interested in the end result.
