It is a good thing I always have a camera around… I never know when I get the call for photography. In this case, my day job, asked if I had my camera and if I could photograph the new pavilion building that had just been built. They were going to be sending invitations out to the ribbon cutting and grand opening.
Usually, you want to photograph a building during twilight. You might even consider doing some light painting. We didn’t have time for that! They need photos and they need them quickly. So I went out in noon day and I exposed for the highlights/exposed to the right and then I was able to get the best quality for that time of day. I also created a look that took advantage of the bright sunlight. I was going for bright, sunny, and open.
Wide angle lenses have their place… and architectural photography is one of those places. People usually don’t look good with wide angle but buildings can look stunning. And you can get pretty creative with the distortion behind the lens. With the wide lens I was able to get the company logo and the building in one shot.
