I was brought in to photograph the Payson High School marching band’s competition in the Nebo Tournament of Bands 2018. Their theme was Thriller by Michael Jackson so a number of the band members were dressed as zombies and they had big displays for a cemetery feel.
The competition took place at Payson High School and they were the first band to perform. It was also the morning my new iPhone was supposed to arrive so I hired a niece to wait for Fedex to arrive, because surprise… Fedex was already a day late!
Most of the photos are close up images of band members because parents will hopefully purchase photos of their children participating. Tomorrow, I’ll be blogging the portraits of the marching band. Yay!
These photos bring back some memories of my one year in high school marching band. I played the clarinet from grade 4 till grade 9. I marched in Cabrillo High School’s marching band. We were a tiny band, so when we marched in parades we went in a triangle formation to look as large as possible. Oh memories. And since I was a dude who played clarinet, the directors upgraded me to alto clarinet and bass clarinet… since those are heavier instruments. Good thing I only played a little bit of piano.
I believe each band had about 7 minutes to perform. So when the signal is given the percussion makes a mad dash to set up their xylophones and other instruments.
