I was the official photographer for a Mad Men themed party at Prestman Autos in Salt Lake City. Guests were encouraged to dress the part of the popular TV show. I picked a crazy outfit inspired by Andy Warhol—an ugly plaid jacket.
I set up a photo booth at the back of the space. I brought my big studio lights and they had made a large paper backdrop with the logo for the show. For the size of the party the background wasn’t large enough but we made it work. We had some large groups and people came back multiple times to get their photo taken.
I would take a break from the photo booth on occasion and go photograph the party in action. People would mingle, dance, check out the cars including a classic 57 Chevy and Ford Mustang. The party lighting really helped with the photography. Want great party photos? Invest in some creative party lights. It makes a world of difference.
And I took about 500 photos. And I will usually remove the ones that might be “blackmail.” Unless people really want to see them I keep those hidden away. No one wants to have that embarrassing photo on the Internets later.
