Check out the photographs from the 2015 Oscar Night Gala at the Rail Events Center. It is an annual fundraiser for the Utah AIDS Foundation and the funds help people living in Utah with HIV/AIDS. The event has a VIP party before hand, a silent auction, dinner catered by Le Croissant Catering, a band was performing during the VIP dinner and between commercial breaks of the televised Academy Awards telecast.
This is an event I have photographed for a number of years and I always try and be a better photographer each year. My friend Alex was also there photographing at the photo booth. I even had my photograph created! Woo hoo! Here I am in the photograph and I have my camera and my “Staff of Light.” The “Staff of Light” is my new event photography lighting set up and it makes people look amazing even as I walk around the event photographing people.
My lighting in conjunction with the lighting from the party makes the band look awesome. I doubt there has ever been a more cool photograph of a flutist.
The appetizers, h’orderves, and desserts looked amazing and I get to practice run and gun food photography. The challenge is to make the food look as good as possible in as quick of a moment as possible.
The theme of the Gala was Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Some people dressed according to the theme. Others just dressed fancy. This was my chance to wear a vest and bow tie. I’m trying to rock a new look.
These blackberry petit fours are so delicious! Yes, I’m on a diet but this was going to be a cheat day and I had a few of these… including one for the road. The folks at Le Croissant Catering do an amazing job with their desserts. I always enjoy the chance to photograph their events.
