This was a first for me! I was contacted by the O Town Roller Derby team to do there team and individual photos. We were planning on photographing at the actual derby but the person with the key to the building never showed up! We were almost without a location when they decided to check a local bar/eatery. They said we could photograph there and it was a great location.
O Town Derby
The bar was decorated with classic guitars and had a very rock and roll theme so that just worked with the derby photos. We shot the individual and team photos. Each person has their own persona which seemed to dictate some of the poses. It seems to be a mix of sex and violence from what I can understand. I haven’t been to a roller derby before but I am sure they are memorable.

This team member had a logo on her caboose and would always feature such a pose. I think they mentioned that she is known for this in the ring. I can’t figure out the sport.

One of the last women I photographed brough her own prop—an assault rifle. I am guessing this is not standard issue for derbies but it would make the sport more interesting. Very gladiator.
