I’ve dabbled photographing food but usually it has been at events that have some catering and the food is going to be consumed quickly by the event’s attendees. So this is a first where I bought some food (frosted donuts and frosted sugar cookies) with the intent of photographing the food.
You truly don’t learn until you try. You can read the books and learn the theory but until you put in motion what you have learned you never get better.
I don’t really cook so finding food could be a challenge. Fortunately, desserts like donuts and sugar cookies come prepared and almost ready to photograph. They can definitely be damaged in the box and that is why you buy several of one item just in case.
I’ll have to do this a few more times before I feel comfortable. Practice makes perfect and it seems perfection is the name of the game in food photography. People want to feel hungry looking at good food photography.
And yes, I did eat the remains after the food photo shoot. Nummers.
