The Utah Capitol can be a popular location for photo shoots. The rules to photograph there seem to be evolving and changing. There hasn’t been a fee to shoot there and family portraits and bridals seem to be fine.
It’s a fun spot to shoot indoors when the weather or seasons aren’t cooperating. We photographed the Kenny family at the capitol a number of years ago… I even brought an assistant to help wrangle the lighting setup. We used 2 lights for this shoot since the capitol is rather dark and indoor lighting isn’t always the best.
If we do photograph there, it’s best when the legislature isn’t in session in January and February. It’s pretty quiet, unless there’s a protest.
After the big group of family, we break into the smaller family units. Couples, kids, and grandparents. Pretty much any combination you can think of… even an aunt with her nephews.
And we end with a fun siblings photo. Yay!
It’s my assistant!
My friend Pamela was my assistant for the day. She helped to wrangle the light stands we were using. It can be helpful if security starts looking at us funny.
This is also a fun portrait! I want a photo like this now.
