Sometimes nature surprises you. We planned the photo shoot for Jay and picked a date that seemed perfect for some autumn photography with beautiful autumn leaves up Big Cottonwood Canyon just east of the Salt Lake Valley. Well, the day before it had snowed some and so we had a mix of autumn color and snow. We made it work though. We were fortunate the leaves stayed on the aspen trees.
We started off with some natural light portraits with some reflector and then we added in the portable lighting to help Jay stand out a bit more in the photos.
The nature in Utah is beautiful and is is wonderful for photography. We’re pretty lucky to have the mountains as a backdrop. Sure I can photograph in studio but if the weather is good, let’s go outside!
After photographing in Big Cottonwood Canyon we drove down to the Great Salt Lake and the Saltair area. They have an abandoned trolley that is pretty popular and the beach for the Great Salt Lake is a little bit like a poor man’s salt flats. It is flat and sort of muddy at times but it can be fun and unique without driving 90 minutes for actual salt flats.
