I met Jacob years ago, we were both learning to play water polo with QUAC. He is a natural athlete and has played a number of sports in high school. I thought it would be fun to create some sport themed portraits in studio. Some of the photographs would be used in Photoshop others, like this film portraits, were to be test shots for my venture into film photography.
I went to several local sports stores looking for props. I found some footballs, basketballs, and baseballs. However, I was unable to find water polo balls locally. So thank heaven for Amazon.com, I was able to find one!
Jacob brought a number of swimsuits, and the yellow/red ones worked the best. I’ll be posting some of the photoshop creations at a later time. In the mean time these are my film photographs. I shot this with my Mamiya medium format film camera and had the film processed and scanned at Richard Photo Lab. RPL creates perfect scans with great color for my clients. This was my first time sending them studio lit subjects.
Not everything was water polo, we had a few basketball photographs as well. Since Jacob has moved to North Carolina, my only opportunity to use him as a model is when he visits about once a year. Always fun to have some friends who are willing to be volunteer models for my projects.
