I was brought in to photograph the organizers of the Utah’s HRC Gala. We went to Westminster College in Salt Lake City because of the people works there and there are some locations that would work. We first created some photographs outside, because it’s summer and it’s pretty. We then went to an art installation and photographed the group in front of one of their paintings.
Sometimes I have to work quick to get a great and natural expression from someone. They need to be relaxed and pointing a camera at them, may not help. So we find great light, or create the light, and then pose the person and I give a few tips on how to stand, position the head, and capture them on camera.
And I don’t limit outfit changes or such. If you want to spend your time changing clothes, that is fine. We do get more looks. In some cases we can go with the glasses, or no glasses, hat or no hat. The portrait will represent you.
