I was hired as an event photographer for a recent funeral themed birthday party and roast that was hosted at an actual funeral parlor. I set up a photo booth in front of a real live coffin and photographed guests. I also photographed a bit of the party and then the roast.
To do event photography right… usually you’ll need 2 photographers. One to run a photo booth or a red carpet. This would be one spot with a studio light set up and people can get a group photo created. The other photographer can be gathering candid shots and detail shots of the party/event. Often though the budget is just enough for one photographer so you need to decide which you want more… posed shots at the photo booth or candid shots. I do both.
I am sure a bunch of people have done funeral themed or over the hill birthday parties. This was unique cause it was at an actual funeral home. And there was the coffin. They had a roast that was portrayed as a funeral service. One of the roasters even dressed as a priest for the event. And a fun time was had by all.
