All my practice at food photography has started to pay off! Back in September I was brought in to create food photography for a new restaurant in Provo. The Spoon is the new cafe inside of the Nu Skin building. Their menu is designed for healthy and tasty lifestyles. Whole foods, good foods, and a creative palette were the key ingredients 😉
These photographs were going to be used in their electronic kiosk to order food. People would be able to click on the square image to order what they want. I wanted clean even lighting and the restaurant had a blonde cutting board in the back that would serve as our table top for all the photographs. We shot over 3 days and I aimed for a consistent lighting and composition. I did bring in some colorful napkins for some shots, we didn’t use them for the kiosk but they are available for some of the other marketing shots. I believe that we had about 1200 photos at the end of the shoot. These are not all of the menu items, but they are a good variety.
This was also great experience for me! I photographed a large variety of food and I got to work directly in the kitchen. We were able to have a bit of collaboration on placement of the food and how certain foods were plated. For the most part the kitchen staff just did their best to create exact representations of portion size and ingredients. Everything in the photographs are edible. In fact we were able to eat the food after the shoot.
This might get my foot into the world of food photography. I still need to blog some photographs of a food shoot for a cookbook, stay tuned.
