Here is the last photo shoot I had in 2018. It was New Year’s Eve and I was editing photographs at home when I received a phone call from a fellow photographer. They had a referral for a family photo shoot, the catch? It was 3:30pm at that moment and they need the photo shoot at 4:30pm. And it takes about an hour to drive to Park City! I called the number for the family and we made arrangements. I grabbed my gear which happened to be ready. And I drove in a very safe and speedy manner to Park City’s Stein Eriksen Residences.
When I arrived, it took about 5 minutes to get my two lights setup on one of the patios overlooking Park City. We had the whole family come out and we photographed the big group. Then we photographed the smaller family units. While we photographed one group, the others would wait inside keeping warm. This photo shoot was shot at -13º Celsius… that is pretty chilly. That’s 8º Fahrenheit for you Americans.
The spot had some trees decorated with Christmas lights. We had some fire pits keeping people warm. Both with the blue color of the sunset provided an awesome background for the photo shoot.
Surprisingly, there were very few tears. Maybe we didn’t have enough time for sadness. There was one or two tears, but they helped create some memorable photos.
We shot all the necessary and even bonus photos in about 20 minutes. We didn’t want to go too long, and the sun was setting quickly. I was able to keep up with the changing light patterns. Hooray for modern camera technology.
And I always offer to shoot individual photos as well. And we had a few that actually volunteered.
Here is a behind the scenes view of my setup and where we were working. Things turned out awesome.
And just a side note, the photograph at the Stein Eriksen Residences, you need to be staying there as a guest. Not anyone can show up and have a photo shoot at the location. So if you’re planning on staying at this or another cool location in Utah, give me a call. I can make your family famous, or at least look great for the camera.
