Creative Portraits with Photoshop & Trains

by dav.d

This is one of those fun Photoshop assignments. I had photographed father and son team Luis and Alexander with their Toyota Land Cruiser and Luis asked if I could create some photographs them in front of some trains. Apparently Alexander is a huge fan of trains. What kid isn’t a fan of Thomas the Train?

This past summer I had photographed Alexander and created some lightning for his “Thor” costume. Alexander still wonders why there is no real lightning coming from Mjolnir (Thor’s hammer). Apparently he thought the photographs were real and he had some cool powers.

This was a fun challenge and I think I will need to revisit the Ogden Train Museum to create more photographs that could serve as backgrounds for compositing.

Here is one of the photographs from the original photo shoot with Luis and Alexander. At the time I wasn’t planning on composites so I had to make do with the shots I created. Next time I would find the background images that would work best and then match my lighting while the models (Alexander) was there. This would certainly help in the realism department. But this is good enough for a kid to have a fun photograph on his wall.
