Creating Photo Composites with San Francisco Images

by dav.d

One of the reasons I wanted to visit San Francisco was to create a number of background photo for my Photoshop compositing. I could spend days just wandering the streets of San Francisco photographing the streets, buildings, and tourist locations. The city is a goldmine for photography. I want to go back!

These two models were photographed in studio in Utah and then I used 2 different backgrounds in the financial district of San Francisco. I’m trying to keep the composites look as natural as possible. I want them to look like I had the model, a studio strobe, and my camera and created it on the street. Since it would be expensive to fly a model, lights, and such to SF I can do it in Photoshop.

The other benefit of Photoshop is I can add some extra bits of fancy to a photograph and make it perfect. The shots are pretty wide angle but people don’t look good with wide angle. If you do things right you can use a flattering lens on the model and still use a wide angle for the scene and get a great shot that works with everything. I can even add some fun flare!

I am hoping to return to San Francisco again in 2014. For that trip I will spend every waking moment wandering the city photographing people, places, and whatever catches my fancy. Excited.
