Utah has a rich and striking landscape. We live along the Wasatch front with mountains to the east which are decorated with canyons that are perfect for hiking, skiing, and engagement sessions. I photographed Tom & Brent in Big Cottonwood Canyon in the evening. We had wonderful light during that time and the canyons were gorgeous.
Naturally, I brought my portable lighting kit which brings plenty of power to make people look their best. It has enough power to overpower the sunlight if I wanted to. However, in situations like this, we blend the beautiful evening light with my light and we get awesome images that will be keepsakes forever.
And a simple reminder, every wedding package includes a complimentary engagement session. I’m hoping the engagement sessions become a great marketing tool. I’m pretty clever!
And the engagement session doesn’t have to be an engagement session. Occasionally a couple already has their engagement photos. You can use the session as a bridal session or a groomal session. Or even a family photo shoot. I’ve done that as well.
As for wardrobe, wear what brings about the best you. It can be safe to wear earth tones. Black is slimming and classic. Printed fabrics can be trendy and might be dated in a few years. So there are a lot of considerations in picking a wardrobe. Solids can be a safe choice. And you’re welcome to bring changes of clothing on the photo shoot. People will often change in the car or find a secluded spot to swap tops.
And then finding a location, I’ve got ideas and resources online to find a location that will look great. I like flexible locations that give a number of looks.

[…] In the rolling hills of Bountiful lies the beautiful home of Brent and Tom. It served as the location for their wedding ceremony and reception last year. They had their children there to celebrate and there were tears of happiness shed on a few occasions. It was an honor to photograph their wedding. You can also see their engagement session here. […]
