Sometimes being an event photographer gives you the chance to see some pretty wicked stunts and performances. One event in Provo, Utah last year had BMX bikers performing through out the day. They had a big ramp and they would take turns doing flips, twists, and even let go of the bicycle completely. No one crashed or was injured and it was a sight to see.
And it makes photographing events even more fun. I might spend a few more minutes photographing the bikers when I could be photographing attendees but I find that balance.
And the weather was perfect for the stunts. There was a video crew on hand and at the time, I hadn’t been bitten by the video bug… otherwise I think I would have gone hybrid and shot some video and photos. Maybe next event. I’m going to have to figure out a way to be a great hybrid shooter.
And years ago, I had the chance to photograph some BMX bikers during a parade, and I got one photograph.
It would be fun to bring out some strobes and just light up the bikers as they perform. That would be cool.
