For the past year I have had the opportunity to be the official photographer for the Salt Lake Acting Company. They specialize in unconventional and highly charged plays and productions. They are definitely going for thought provoking in the plays they decide to produce.
I did the production photography for Bloody, Bloody, Andrew Jackson. It tells the story of Andrew Jackson through song and some humor but it also part historical novel. I even had the chance to attend the opening night performance and very much enjoyed the show. I definitely look at the history of the United States with a different point of view. Isn’t that the point of a thought provoking play? I am looking forward to some of the Acting Company’s new plays.
A historical play that is a musical? It really is brilliant. Andrew Jackson’s character had an Elvis personality and the rock numbers harken to some Broadway plays that have used the rock theme to tell their story.
The Salt Lake Acting Company presents the musical Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson. It is comedy, musical, and historical novel all in one.
Working with the Salt Lake Acting Company is part of my commercial work. I quite enjoy it. It is different than wedding or portrait work. In the case of the theater, we are using the stage lights, and using a director to decide the shots. We are working in lower light and dramatic light. To do these shots, I shoot tethered to a laptop so we can see the images pop up on screen before we go to the next scene. We want to make sure we have the shot before we continue.
