I’ve almost lost track of how many Toyota Land Cruisers that I have photographed… this is the first beige vehicle though. These cars are cult classics and Luis has rebuilt and restored a number of these vehicles and has had me photograph them.
We photographed this Land Cruiser near the Magna cemetery. We try to photograph as close to dawn or dusk as possible so we get the best light possible. I use a studio strobe to light the vehicle. I use one light and multiple photographs to combine them into one photo using Photoshop. A little bit of retouching and the vehicle is ready to be listed on eBay or other websites. Great photos help sell cars fast.
Car photography seems to be moving more and more to computer generated images or CGI. Many of the videos are pure computer creations. However, it is nice to have a real vehicle and real object to work with. Perhaps that is one reason the new Star Wars movie is going back to practical effects.
Now I need to learn to photograph a vehicle in studio. A local car dealership is interested in a lighting setup to photograph cars on location. It is all about lighting and reflections for cars. Many cars are like mirrors and just reflect the environment around them.
