Scheduling a photo shoot for the evening has one downside the sun will set. Normally this is ideal as the light can be quite beautiful. This can be a disaster if you have a teenage son who has no clean pants. The family was delayed the first day and I was waiting in the park as the beautiful sunlight disappeared. I shouldn’t throw someone under the bus like this but the family are friends of mine and he is a teenager. Who hasn’t been late to an event?
So we did a few photographs the first day and then met up the next day to create more photos. I’m pretty flexible in cases like this. And the this meant the family could switch outfits as well so it sort of worked out in the end.
I picked the International Peace Garden because it is a favorite place to photograph. There is a lot of variety in the park and the light in the evening is beautiful. I’m writing this blog post in 2014 and I will admit my editing of these photos is a little heavy handed. I am much more natural in my photography these days. Back in 2008 I was still relatively new at photography and styling and so there is a lot more contrast and saturation than what I do in 2014.
And these photos are also all natrual light. I did use a reflector for some photos but today I tend to bring along a portable lighting kit and things look better. They are still great photos.
Amy and Julianne are planning on marrying in Vermont where gay marriage is legal and I am hoping to be their photographer. I’ll blog their photos when that happens.
