Steven Fales is the actor and writer behind the Confessions of a Mormon Boy Trilogy. He documents his coming out story in a one man play and how he found redemption in his life and with his kids.
He came to me in need of one specific photograph… a dramatic portrait on black with single light from above. We spent a while getting that one photograph and then we went nuts in the studio with the different backgrounds available. We have an aluminum wall, graffiti, wooden walls, and more to get a variety of portraits.
I am a fan of sunsets. If a sunset happens and I don’t photograph it, does it even exist? And if I can put a model or an engagement couple in front, even better.
We also played with some gels on the lights… a combination of blue and red and we get different looks in several locations.
And there is a ye olde time Coca-cola machine outside, and it made the perfect prop for these last two photos. We used a combination of the light from the machine and some of my lights to make this scene work.
