Get ready and strap in for a huge blog post with a lot of food photography for The Spoon. I have been the Spoon’s food photographer for a number of years, since they started back in 2013/2014.
You can see some of the previous shoots here: 2017 menu, 2015 menu, and their first menu. Over the years we have worked to keep a consistent look to the food photography. We have used the same type of table for each shoot. At times I have played with placemats and napkins to add color. The photos are used in their electronic kiosks when people order their meals. So pictures are important.
I am including a few different styled photos… where they are shot with one light. I added these in addition to the pure commercial photos. These are a little more artistic in their lighting and work great for social media and some advertising. The commercial photos are more evenly lit and a bit brighter. I would almost call them “catalogue shots.”
In here, I have also included some behind the scenes photos of the photo shoot. I’m using one or two huge softboxes to shoot the food. I throw in some mirrors and reflectors as well.
Here is one of the behind the scenes photos. Flash technology is getting pretty cool Everything is wireless these days which makes shooting a lot easier. I can change power levels and the batteries go for the whole shoot.
The Spoon offers a number of accommodations for vegan, gluten free, and other specialized menus. Something even vegetarians would enjoy!
