Check out the family photos for the Magleby family. They are a family of entrepreneurs based in Provo, Utah. One of their ventures is the Rocco & Roxie pet products company. And I’ve photographed their products on several occasions.
This particular evening, between product photography, we photographed the family together in front of the Wasatch mountains in Provo, Utah. We took advantage of an open field in a park near a school so we had the deep v of Rock Canyon behind them. And during the shoot, the most amazing sunset appeared… so we took some other photos with the sunset behind them. You are ready for anything during family photo shoots.

And this group had 4 generations… from great-grandparents down to the latest generation.

We even had some dogs there because it will be used in some of the marketing for their pet product company. Oh, and they had Roxie the cat there as well. We can’t forget about Roxie. Morgan is particular about her. In fact, we had FIVE animals. Hollywood says to never work with kids and animals and we broke that rule for this whole photo shoot.

After photographing the whole group we broke it down to the individual family groups. And I always offer to photograph each person individually, some people like that others just want the groups. It’s a great idea to get individual shots… just in case someone shows up on “Amercia’s Most Wanted” or “Dancing With the Stars.”

During the photo shoot a beautiful sunset appeared and we just turned 90º and photographed people with the sunset behind them. There were some houses in the background, but we kept that as silhouette so the buildings weren’t as distracting.

This is one reason to use portable lighting… I couldn’t create these kind of photos without the light.
