Winter months in Utah can be pretty slow for photographers. Having access to a studio can help greatly with the winter blues. Shawn is a friend of mine who fancies himself as an amateur photographer and I wanted to get some shooting time in and work with my studio lighting. I booked the studio and we met up for an afternoon of photography!

We played around with some low key lighting where there is primarily one light and we create shadows and a bit of mystery. This is in sharp contrast to high key lighting where the background is white and there are very little shadows, if any.

The studio happened to have a few props laying around and Shawn put them to good use. Some funky glasses and a birthday hat are put to good use for the portraits.

Shawn definitely brought energy to the shoot. He moved, he posed, he tried whatever felt right. In the end we had a lot we could use and a lot to choose from. Everyone has a different energy when in front of the camera and sometimes, some models just do it all on their own. Other times I get to try and pull that energy out and capture it on the camera.
