The Complex is an event venue located just west of The Gateway Mall. I’ve photographed a few events there and this time I was hired by Le Croissant Catering to photograph their food and catering for a company party for a local telemarketing company. The theme of the party was gambling and food. I believe there was some drinking as well. In short, the company had gone all out for a fun time for their employees.
The catering and the food were in several parts. There was the main buffet for dinner. The dinner was in one room of The Complex. And then the party was moved into another larger room for the gambling and enjoying of more food. The more food was Chinese stir fry made fresh by one of the Le Croissant chefs. There were also street tacos that were made for the guests.
There were also numerous h’orderves that were served through the evening. They even had chicken and waffle h’orderves. I had not tried chicken and waffles and heard rumor of their existance so this was my first experience. I believe they used chicken nuggets on mini waffles. They were covered with some syrup before serving them to guests.
It wasn’t real gambling. Don’t worry state of Utah—people still have to drive to Nevada to send their money there to gamble. This was the fun legal kind. I don’t know if there were even prizes involved.
Who doesn’t love street tacos? They had a station completely dedicated to street tacos. You could then top them with the salsa of your choice. Nummers.
And last but not least the S’mores bar. You would roast your own marshmallow on a little Sterno stove and then squish it between Hersey candy bars and graham crackers.
And a fun time was had by all.
I enjoyed the catering photography. It gives me an abbreviated experience of food photography. If this were full fledged food photography we would do the lighting completely different, work on the styling, and then focus on just some of the food. And we wouldn’t be so rushed for time.
