2020 has been a strange year with COVID-19, murder hornets, politics, and more. However, people are still planning on getting married and with some social distancing and being outdoors, there are things that can still happen, like an engagement session at Provo’s Rock Canyon.
I photographed Brielle & Gage in mid-May and their wedding is scheduled in July. We’re hoping that the LDS Temple will be ready for weddings. They are also planning an outdoor wedding ceremony as well. It’ll be a fun and exciting wedding day.
Picking a location doesn’t have to be too complicated. Obviously, some areas are very cool, but we can make cool photos almost anywhere with the right composition, lighting, and posing. The key is to pick a location that will match your personality. Whether you feel like an urban feel or a outdoor mountain feel. I had suggested Rock Canyon because it has trees, rocks, mountains, canyons, and so much texture.
We photographed after work hours and the trail was a little popular. We would just would avoid other people. This way I spend less time removing people in the background.
The best time for photography is close to sunrise or close to sunset. If your shadow is longer than you are tall, the light is going to be awesome.
And it helps when the couple is cuddly and don’t mind showing some affection in front of the camera. Often it takes a few minutes before people open up for the camera. We took about 800 photographs in the 2 hours we shot, and I delivered about 180 photos. That sounds like a lot, but we had so many different looks. It was very cool.
