C.J. Bridal Photography in Memory Grove in Salt Lake City, Utah

by dav.d

Originally we were going to photograph C.J.’s bridals the day of the wedding. However, C.J. asked if we could photograph them a week early just so we could spend an appropriate amount of time and creative energy to the bridal photography. It also gives us a chance to pick a different location and we picked Memory Grove which is my favorite spot for outdoor bridals. It is a very popular location for a lot of photographers. If you get creative though, you can have some unique images which I think we were able to do.

For these bridals I brought along 2 lights for the photo shoot. The light stands are tall enough to create some unique looks that natural light alone couldn’t create. It is just one tool to creativity and creating something original.

We also photographed later in the afternoon about 6pm. Since Memory Grove is in a valley we don’t have to worry too much about direct sunlight. In fact most of the shoot was in shade. We spent about 2 hours for the shoot and I’m always able to keep going and going but if the bride runs out of energy then we wrap up. But by that time we had created a bunch of photos!

C.J. also needed these photos as soon as possible. I can’t always guarantee what I did this time—same day turn around. That is unheard of for most photographers. I usually try to have photos ready within two weeks but sometimes I am able to turn around and get them to the client ASAP. It does depend on my schedule and check with me ahead of time. The best policy is to not be in such a hurry that we need emergency turn around.

I also recommend that brides bring some kind of floral arrangement to use as a stunt bouquet. I know that you will have an official bouquet on your wedding day. And the flowers might be significantly different from your bridals. Why do you want something? It gives your hands something to do or to hold. A bouquet is a perfect prop for bridals. In this case the flowers were a gift from C.J.’s fiancee. Woo hoo!

Why are bridals important? It is yet another chance to have some photographs and prints at your wedding day. A large print of the bride can show off the dress and be very fashion forward for your guests. And you get to wear your dress more than once! It is a good thing to consider before the wedding day.

Another popular option is groomals or formals before the wedding. In this situation we include the groom. he is able to wear his suit/tux for the photos. This is best done of the bride doesn’t mind the groom seeing the dress before the wedding. If you’re a traditionalist then this wouldn’t work.

But in the modern age of weddings and photography you can create your own traditions and do your own thing.
