Brian’s Portraits in Santaquin Mines & Eureka

by dav.d

Brian and I went hunting for some ghost towns in Utah. I had heard that Eureka is pretty ghost towny. There are a bunch of people that live there but there were plenty of abandoned buildings. Unfortunately, by the time we got there the sun was almost gone and we were going to head back to Salt Lake.

We did stop by the Santaquin Mines. They were used briefly in the movie Bats and they are built on the side of a large hill at a steep vertical climb. It isn’t for the faint of heart, but it is pretty cool for some portraits and photography. It is a little bit of a drive from Salt Lake.

Since the mines were quite the climb we stayed with natural light photography. I now have a bunch of portable lighting so I can get creative with my lighting and not break my back carrying it up a hill.

In Eureka we spent most the time around an old trolley. We brought my big studio lights to get the photos created.
